HTP Sample Preparation Group

Helcio Burd graduated from the Campinas State University (Unicamp), Brazil with a degree in Chemical Engineering. Following which he was awarded a scholarship from the Danish government to pursue a master degree in biotechnology at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU). His master research was a collaboration between DTU and the Fungi Development Department at Novo Nordisk working with Kim Hansen. After his masters he worked in the expression core facility under Ario de Marco at the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) in Heidelberg, Germany as a fermentation specialist. He then setup and operated the fermentation facility in the Jay Keasling's Laboratory and is now part of the technology group at JBEI setting up the new fermentation facility.

Huu Tran has a degree in Biochemistry from the University of California, Berkeley. He has extensive technical and work place experiences. His early academic experiences were from the Cancer Research Institute at University of California, San Francisco. He was then one of the initial employees in Product Development Group at Affymetrix, Inc. and then worked at the protein array company Zyomyx, Inc., for a number of years. He is currently a principal technologist at Sandia National Laboratories in the Energy System Department. At JBEI, he is working in the Technology group, setting up the new robotic facility and involved in process development. Outside of work Huu is a Scout Master and leads BSA Troop 610 in Coyote Creek District, San Jose. He also involved in Asian Pacific Leadership Committee at Sandia National Laboratories and Project Cornerstone in Berryessa Union School District.
