JBEI Collaborative Research
The most significant way to leverage JBEI’s scientific capabilities is to sponsor collaborative research of mutual interest to your company and to JBEI. Sponsored research leverages JBEI’s multidisciplinary talent and state-of-the-art technology to provide your company with research that might not be possible otherwise or might be far more costly and time consuming to undertake internally.
JBEI conducts sponsored research in areas that are complementary to our core mission. This includes projects of mutual interest to JBEI and the sponsor in the areas of biofuels feedstocks, deconstruction on biomass, synthesis of biofuels, and the development of technologies to enable biofuels research and development. JBEI also considers collaborative research projects that span these areas.
Sponsored research is structured so that the industry sponsor has the first opportunity to exclusively license any intellectual property that results from the research and co-owns jointly made inventions. Our researchers are familiar with and trained in managing firewalls around each company’s proprietary information.
Process for Developing a Sponsored Research Project
As alternatives to sponsored research, companies may direct funds to:
- Named postdoctoral fellowships
- Placing an employee in JBEI’s industry scholar program
- Sponsorship of a JBEI Conference or seminar
