Keasling Wins BIO’s First Biotech Humanitarian Award

JBEI CEO Jay Keasling has been selected by the Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO) to receive its first annual Biotech Humanitarian Award. Keasling was recognized for his use of synthetic biology techniques to develop a simple and much less expensive means of making artemisinin, today’s most powerful anti-malaria drug.

JBEI Researchers Develop Award-Wining Technology

R&D Magazine's 100 Top Technologies awards are also known as R&D 100 Awards. The awards are presented by a panel of judges to the 100 most technologically significant products of the year. A team that included JBEI researchers have won an R&D 100 Award for the Berkeley Lab Phylochip. The PhyloChip is a DNA chip (microarray) that quickly, comprehensively, and accurately identifies species within microbial samples from any environmental source, without any culturing required.
